Let’s Start

Have you ever been worried about your soon-to-be-teenager child?

Have you give them enough information? Does he/she knows all the right things already?

Are you worried that your child looks for information online? Or from a friend?

But maybe it is hard to find the right time to talk in private?

Or even harder to gather up the topics to share with your child.

Well then, welcome!

Ternyata memiliki anak pra-remaja bukan berarti hidup semakin mudah.

Tetapi perubahan emosional anak remaja bukanlah satu-satunya tantangan kehidupan mereka.

They are just lost.

As a doctor and mother of three girls age 3 to 11 years old, I am very interested with health topics especially child health (and now teen also because my eldest is a pre-teen now). Well, I think all moms are obsessed with the topic. We browse a lot from pregnancy period up to now preparing our children for adolescence.  I am sure I am no the only one here 🙂

After much reading, I have come to realize that adolescence is a very unique period in life, also in terms of health concerns. Adolescent health problems are often correlated to reproductive health only, but that is not true. Teenagers experience many health issues such as oily skin, acne, body odor, eating disorder, and depression.

Why?

Because there is so much going on and so much is expected of them.

Besides growing very rapidly, teens are also expected to be more independent, studying hard, adapting with new environment, taking good care of themselves, and all at the same time. In this period, parents should be ever present for their children. They may not have similar demands as a toddler but they still need you to be with them.

Reproductive and mental health problems are still the main issues that we need to prioritize.

But as parents, sometimes we don’t know what to do or say. It is often explained that parents should be the child’s first information source. Parents should prepare the materials and talk to your child about puberty and reproductive health.

Easier said than done.
